Day 1. Arrive Auckland.
You will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Stay: Auckland, Hotel Ibis.
Day 2. Auckland, Bay of Islands.
This morning we visit the Matakohe Pioneer Museum, home to the world´s
largest collection of kauri gum. Continue to the majestic Waipoua Kauri Forest
Reserve. Travel to the Bay of Islands National Maritime Park. On arrival enjoy
a guided visit of the historic Waitangi Reserve.
Two Night Stay: Bay of Islands, Beachcomber Resort.
Day 3. Bay of Islands at Leisure.
Enjoy a day at leisure in the Bay of Islands. Not only is the Bay of Islands the birthplace of the Nation and thus full of New Zealand history, it is also home to 144 islands.
Day 4. Bay of Islands, Auckland.
Explore New Zealand´s finest National Maritime Park on a catamaran cruise
to Cape Brett and the famous Hole in the Rock. Sail through game fishing
waters to view the Cape Brett lighthouse then make passage through the Hole.
Meander through the inner islands, viewing sandy beaches, rocky outcrops and
visit a secluded bay. Return this afternoon to Auckland.
Stay: Auckland, Hotel Ibis.
Day 5. Auckland, Waitomo, Rotorua, Hangi (Feast).
Leaving the City of Sails we travel south through the
rich dairy land of the Waikato Province to Waitomo Caves.
Here we experience a guided tour of the underground limestone
caverns, lit by thousands of tiny glow worms. Arrive
in Rotorua. Tonight immerse yourself in a Maori Hangi
(feast) and cultural performance of traditional dance
accompanied by song.
Two Night Stay: Rotorua, Hotel Ibis.
Day 6. Explore Rotorua.
Today experience the attractions of Rotorua. We visit Te Puia Thermal Reserve. Enjoy a guided tour through the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute and continue to the Agrodome. The remainder of today is at leisure. Country Homestay option available tonight.
Day 7. Rotorua, Taupo, Napier.
Depart Rotorua this morning and travel via Wairakei Park
and the mighty Huka Falls then on to New Zealand´s largest
lake, Lake Taupo. Continue to the Art Deco city of Napier, visiting the Church
Road Winery on the way. On arrival in Napier, enjoy a city sights tour with a
guided Art Deco walk around the city.
Stay: Napier, Tennyson Napier.
Day 8. Napier, Wellington.
Today depart Napier and travel south via Hastings where
we turn inland and travel across to the West Coast of
the North Island. We follow the Kapiti Coast before arriving
in Wellington.
Stay: Wellington, Bay Plaza Hotel.
Day 9. Wellington, Picton.
This morning enjoy a brief city sightseeing tour, including
Parliament Buildings, before we visit Te Papa—the Museum
of New Zealand. This afternoon join your cruise for
the journey across Cook Strait to the South Island. Sail through the
Marlborough Sounds to the seaside port of Picton.
Stay: Picton, Beachcomber Inn.
Day 10. Picton, Christchurch.
Today is a spectacular scenic journey between mountains and sea. Travel between the Pacific Ocean and rugged Kaikoura Ranges, to Christchurch. On arrival your tour concludes and a departure transfer to the airport is included.
- Relax in the sub-tropical Bay of Islands before exploring the harbour city of Auckland, then soak up the thermal reserves and steaming geysers of Rotorua.
- Once visiting Wellington, the nation´s capital you join a cruise through the spectacular Marlborough Sounds and finish 10 days later in Christchurch.
