Art deco is a distinct geometric style for Architecture, Furnishings, Crockery, Decoration, Jewellery and Art all created around the 1920’s and 30’s. Napier was nearly destroyed by an earthquake in 1931. As Art Deco was the prominent style of the time Napier was rebuilt in this style and the reason for the festival is to celebrate and revel in its uniqueness. You might even like to dress in the style of the period as you will see a lot of visitors dressed for the occasion.
This trip takes in the festival and sightseeing, including a theatre show, big bands at the Soundshell, Automobilia Vintage Car Parade, lunch at the prestigous Mission Estates winery, and a personally guided tour of the Art Deco Trail.
Moving on from there to a waters edge lunch at Te Awanga and on to Taupo with a waterfront stay, a viewing of the Huka Falls and a riverboat cruise with lunch up to the far reaches of the Waikato River.
All in all an action packed, really cool way to see the Hawkes Bay.
