DAY1

Arrive Auckland

Welcome to Auckland, New Zealand. Collect your car at the airport and travel to your first accommodation in Auckland city centre. Depending on your arrival time, we will plan with you your day in Auckland

 
DAY2

Auckland - Rotorua

After checking in at your accommodation, visit the renown Whakawerawera thermal reserve at Te Puia village – guided tour. In the evening you will be collected from your accommodation for a Maori cultural encounter at Tamaki Village, where you will enjoy a Maori cultural performance and experience a hangi (feast). A truly memorable experience.

 

 
DAY3

At Rotorua

This day will see you travelling to the fascinating Waimangu Volcanic Valley (20 mins south of Rotorua) – the youngest geothermal valley in the world (formed 1886). Take a hike round this geothermal phenomenon followed by a scenic cruise on a crater lake. 

In the evening immerse yourselves in the outdoor thermal spas overlooking Lake Rotorua and if you really want to treat yourself, try one of the many massage therapies on offer (massage with additional cost).

Other options for today:

  • Visit Rotorua Skyline Gondola to enjoy the views and a drink.
  • Visit the Rainbow Springs where you can view the Kiwi in its nature.
  • Visit the Agrodome – to view sheep shearing
 
DAY4

Rotorua - Wellington

Drive to Wellington via the Tongariro National Park or via Martinborough winery region – approx 5.5 hrs drive plus stop-overs . You will arrive in Wellington late afternoon and this location is acting in this instance as a station before crossing to the south islands. You may visit the Parliament house – take a free guided tour around the halls of power (Parliament Buildings and the Beehive, named for its shape); and Te Papa National museum which occupies a stunning waterfront location and where state-of-the-art presentations and exhibits chronicle New Zealand’s art, history and Maori culture.

 

 
DAY5

Wellington - Picton - Kaikoura

This morning you will catch your ferry across the Cook Strait from Wellington through the spectacular Marlborough Sounds into Picton – the gateway to the south island. Pick up your car in Picton ferry terminal and start your southern leg of the trip. Your next destination is Kaikoura from here you sail out to your whale watch cruise.

 
DAY6

Kaikoura - Christchurch

A short drive of 2.5 hrs leads you to Christchurch. Known as the most English city outside of England, Christchurch is very easy to walk around allowing you to take in the many sights of interest.

Christchurch city centre is still recovering from the February 2011 earthquake and parts of the centre are not accessible at this stage (September 2011). Christchurch is considered safe to visit – you will see the city’s gardens, some of the city centre and the aftermath of earthquake if this is of interest to you. Your tour can be diverted to skip Christchurch and visit another location further south instead. Please let us know your preferences; we are happy to make any adjustments required.

 
DAY7

Christchurch - Mount Cook

From Christchurch, drive south through the South Island’s interior. This particular drive is one of the most scenic in New Zealand. Vast open plains surrounded by majestic mountains – plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Your destination this day is New Zealand’s highest peak – Mt Cook. There are numerous day walks on offer, a unique glacial lake cruise, as well as scenic flights over the mountain and surrounding glaciers – breathtaking views! (Additional cost).

Breakfast is included today (continental).

 
DAY8

Mount Cook - Queenstown

This day sees you in the adventure capital of the Southern Hemisphere. A myriad of activities are on offer from the adrenalin pumping bungy jumping, shotover jetboat and rafting, Lord of the Rings tour to the more sedate romantic dawn hot air balloon trip – something for everyone. The tour included in the package is the award winning Lord of the Rings safari 4WD into back country Skipper’s Canyon through spectacular Lord of the Rings sites. NB: You have the option of exchanging the above tour for one that suits your requirements. Cost difference will be reimbursed or charged.

 
DAY9

Queenstown

Spend the day exploring the picturesque sights of this alpine region, or take the opportunity to do further activities. Share your desires and expectations with us so we can assist you plan this day in this special location. We have left this ‘open’ as we know Queenstown talks different language to everyone and we wouldn’t like to determine which is your language.

 
DAY10

Queenstown - Milford Sound - Te Anau

This day has you travelling south to Fiordland National Park and the famous Milford Sound, where you will board your boat for a cruise round the awe inspiring Sound. Abundant marine wildlife to be viewed while on your cruise. After the afternoon on the Sound, travel back to Te Anau on the spectacular Milford road, and in the evening visit the world famous Te Anau glowworm caves – a magical experience.

 
DAY11

Te Anau - Dunedin

Travel across to the east coast – Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula is your next destination. This afternoon take the opportunity to explore the Peninsula and meet the local wildlife such as the yellow-eyed penguins, the world famous Albatross colony, NZ fur seals and sea lions.

 
DAY12

Dunedin - Auckland

Today travel up the East Coast via the Moeraki Boulders to Christchurch.

Stay the night in Christchurch or fly to Auckland – depending on your flight departure time tomorrow.
