Mark Glasser / March 2012 / New Zealand Vacation

Mark: here’s some feedback on our trip. Before I forget, thanks for your help with everything. I hope I can refer others to you in the future. Auckland: We stayed at the Crowne Plaza and thought it was very nice for the price – $200 per night U.S. Great location Te Anau: Radfords. We really liked it there, the owner, Kerri, was so helpful. Ask for rooms on second floor for better view. We were on ground floor and our sliding door opened up on the parking area. Queenstown: Rees. Didn’t like this place as much. The room was pretty small, but the people at the front desk were so nice and helpful. The restaurant was one of the best we had ever been to, anywhere in the world. We also did the shotover canyon jet boat ride and liked that as well. It was rainy day and a spur of the moment decision to do that instead of hiking. Another day we did the Earnslaw boat to Walter Peak ranch. The food at Walter Peak was bad. I would not recommend this trip to others. Franz Joseph Glacier: Glenfern villas. A clean and large cabin with full kitchen, living room, bath, and bedroom. A really nice place to stay. The helicopter glacier hike was great. It is expensive, but I thought worth the money as long as we were there. Pancake Rocks: The Rocks homestay B & B. A beautiful house and Roland was very nice. Ask for the larger bedroom. Abel Tasman: Ocean View Chalets. One of our favorite places. We just loved the cabin and the view from our balcony. A super location for exploring AT park. Wellington: IBIS. You get what you pay for. Cheap price and good location. Powderhorn Chateau: Really nice place to stay, friendly people, but a long drive from the trailhead. I think the Tongariro Chateau is better for people doing the Tongariro crossing hike. The food was good at the Powderhorn and I can see it would be a busy place in the winter. Turangi: Creel Lodge. Absolutely a beautiful apartment and location. Outdoor barbecue, full kitchen, gardens, short walk to the river. Wish we could have stayed there longer. The owners were very nice. We did a great white water rafting trip in Turangi with Rafting New Zealand. They took care of us so well and it was fabulous trip down the rapids. Highly recommend this. The people at Powderhorn told us about this. Rotorua: Regent. Great place to stay. Really liked the hotel, the room and the location. But one night seemed enough for us in Rotorua. Hamilton: Shailers B & B was superb. Beautiful home and location. Great hosts. Highly recommend that. Wish we could have stayed longer. We ordered dinner ahead of time and had a gourmet meal. Waitomo Caves: The Black Water rafting trip was fun, and challenging. Don’t think many people our age do that, but I am glad we went. Regards,
